Carers and Volunteers

"When the patient is terminally ill, massage and touch therapy have shown to be an enrichment of their quality of life."
The Workshop will provide Health Professionals, Carers and Volunteers the knowledge to give safe massage/touch therapy to their loved one or client who may either have a terminal/chronic illness, be in palliative care, aged care or living with cancer.
Who would benefit by attending
Physicians, nurses, allied health therapists, doulas, volunteers,
carers and family caregivers can benefit from this workshop
This workshop includes:
- The importance and significance of touch.
- The precautions needed when giving a massage.
- An understanding of the therapeutic benefits of massage.
- How participants can incorporate "therapeutic" touch within
their caring role.
- Skills to safely provide a non-demanding hand & foot massage.
- The importance of presence and self-care
This workshop was developed by and is facilitated by Gillian Jackson.
Gillian has conducted this workshop for volunteers at MND Victoria, Melbourne City Mission Palliative Care, Palliative Care Victoria
and Banksia Palliative Care.
Course Requirements:
No prior massage experience necessary.
Morning & afternoon tea will be provided.
Dress for comfort with additional layers if you feel the cold.
Often, touching brings the greatest comfort and is ultimately the healing needed for both the care giver
and care receiver.
